The 2010 SEMA Show – Day 3

2010 SEMA Show - Day 3

Our third and final day covering the 2010 SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV. Tired of waiting in long lines for bad food, worn-out from walking 15 miles per day and properly hung over, we mustered up enough gumption to hit the floor one last time for this 2010 season.

From suspension systems to brakes, off-road lights to replacement Jeep doors and several items in between, your editors hit several new sections and found twelve more companies offering some 30 or so interesting goods to fit into your 4-wheel drive world.

Now that the SEMA Show is over, we can pack our bags, rid ourselves of the ding-ding-ding of slot machines and climb onto that ol’ jet plane and head back to the office to bury ourselves behind our monitors and get back to working on articles.

With that, we present to you our last findings for the 2010 SEMA Show. Enjoy!

KC HiLiteswww.kchilites.com
KC HiLites, builder of corner-stone off-road products like the original Daylighter, lit-up the SEMA show this year with two new LED offerings. Their new KC LZR 4” Round LED Driving Lights, available today, are fully submersible (see pic) up to 3M depth. The second new product profiled at the KC HiLites booth (available in 2011) was a monster 8” running light powered by dual 10 Watt LED running lights. These super bright LEDs are cooled by an integral heat-sink, reducing LED light/color degradation. As with all KC HiLites products, these lights are built for serious off-road performance with a great showing at the KC HiLites Midnight Special off-road race and planned fitment to four entrants for the upcoming Baja 1000.

Mechanix Wearwww.mechanix.com
Gloves… Why might a burly bunch of off-roaders care about gloves? Well, if you like us spend the better part of your time with a tool in your hand (not that sort of tool) then you could use a set of Mechanix Wear gloves. Mechanix Wear offers some of the finest automotive racing and shop gloves in the industry. Two gloves in particular that caught our eyes this year were the M-PACT GLOVE, featuring and the M-PACT 2 GLOVE. The M-PACT GLOVE features extra palm padding as well as additional wear-resistance on the pads of the thumb and index-finger. The M-PACT 2 GLOVE, takes that a step further with the addition of impact-absorbing padding on the fingers and palm.

Meziere Enterprises caught our attention this year with a line of high-performance water pumps, starters and billet flywheels. Meziere products are designed for high-performance racing applications including drag racing, road racing and off-road Trophy Truck competition, just to name a few. Mike Meziere profiled a number of products for the 4X4REVIEW.COM team including their all billet mechanical water pumps, in-line dual and single outlet water pumps (perfect for rock-crawlers with rear-mounted radiators), high-torque starters and billet steel flywheels. Each of these products are made in the USA to the tightest of tolerances.

Nostalgic Air / JeepAir.comwww.JeepAir.com
When stopping by the Nostalgic Air booth at the SEMA show this year, I asked the question, “Do you guys offer A/C Kits for older Jeep vehicles?” Owner, Jon Delucia, and fellow Nostalgic Air exhibitor, Doug Chucian, looked at me like I’d just fallen off of a turnip truck. “Haven’t you heard of JeepAir.com” they asked incredulously. I hadn’t until then and the same may be true for you. If you drive a Jeep CJ or YJ and are in need of A/C, JeepAir.com, as the nations largest supplier of Jeep A/C components, has you covered with complete kits, even kits for popular engine conversions.

OMIX-ADA / Rugged Ridgewww.omix-ada.com
OMIX-ADA made a big splash on the SEMA show floor this year with two award winning products, their interior trim kit and spare tire carrier for 2007-2010 Jeep Wranglers. In addition to these winners the products that really caught our attention were their Rugged Ridge brand half-doors for Jeep JK Wranglers (2 and 4 door models) in both solid and tube door styles. The “solid” style door features a smooth black outer finish that can be left unpainted or painted by the consumer as well as a textured inner door panel with arm rest and grab handle. The tube style door can be equipped with an optional Rugged Ridge storage system (as seen in photo). Both doors accept factory-style mirrors and are easy to install. Also new from OMIX-ADA and Rugged Ridge this year is a single rear bumper system and tire carrier for Jeep CJ, YJ and TJ.

ProFormwww.proformparts.com
ProForm is a builder / distributor of high-performance products, primarily for the hot-rod and muscle car enthusiast, or so we thought… When visiting with the ProForm team at SEMA this year, we discovered a wealth of products applicable to the off-road enthusiasts. From high-torque starters and high-flow water pumps to HEI ignitions, engine dress-up kits and rear-end covers, we found dozens of product offerings for the off-road market. In particular, we came away seriously impressed with ProForms AMC product offerings including an HEI distributor and new front timing cover for AMC 304-401 V8 engines.

Rubicon Expresswww.RubiconExpress.com
New from Rubicon Express (RE) are a set of Jeep JK reservoir shocks developed by Bilstein specifically for Rubicon Express suspension systems. Based on the already excellent Bilstein 5160 line-up of shock absorbers, the Rubicon Express team took these shocks two steps further for the JK Wrangler by partnering with Bilstein to tune the shocks specifically to the RE suspension system. The RE-specific valving and compression / rebound tuning of these shock absorbers was produced through literally days and days of off-road testing, resulting in an excellent combination of on-road civility with off-road performance.

TrailModswww.TrailMods.com / www.jk-only.com /
One of the most interesting new product releases seen by this editor at the 2010 SEMA show were the TrailMods Removable Fender Flares. Designed for Jeep JK Wranglers, these removable flares offer a solution for off-roaders living in states with tire coverage laws. This ingenious solution can really be considered a set of 8 flares for your Wrangler, with a smaller inner flare providing excellent off-road clearance and a large outer flare providing increased on-road tire coverage. The inner flare bolts / clips onto your stock JK flare mounting points and has molded into it’s perimeter, a shallow channel in which the larger outer flare fits. When off-roading, the user simply unclips the outer flare from the inner for increased tire clearance. All TrailMods manufacturing from raw material to finished product is performed in the USA. Also new this year from TrailMods in partnership with JK-Only and STS Turbo is a bolt-on turbo system for the 2007-2009 Jeep Wrangler. This kit, engineered by STS Turbo, mounts the turbo aft of the engine compartment, in-line with the stock exhaust. This STS Turbo design characteristic is unusual but effective for restoring 100HP of the seat-of-the pants power lost when installing larger tires on a Jeep JK.

Valley Towing Productswww.vtowing.com
Valley continues to refine their line of electronic brake controllers. Last year we profiled the advanced features of their new controller during the 2009 SEMA show. This year, Valley was back with the same great features (accelerometer controlled braking) in a much smaller unit. As shown below, this under-dash-mounted controller is about the size of a smart-phone. Also new from Valley was an advanced brake controller designed to be mounted above-dash and featuring a folding, positionable display.
