| I have a 88 toyota 4-runner with a 22-re auto tranny. I was wondering if the TPS (throttle position sensor) would stop my runner from going over 20 mph. At take off it will get up to 20 mph then stay at that speed. The engine will still rev when I press the accelerator, but will not go any faster than 20. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank You |

Typically not. Unless the TPS fails completely and doesn't work at all (in which the ECU will go into "limp mode"), they will
fail in a range and the engine will rnu funky in that range. "Funky" is abrupt, but once through that range (moving the
acccelerator out if the range), it shoud return to normal.
I would check the fuel pump. They are two-speed and if the low speed fails, you will have plenty of fuel to start of with, but then
"plaa" - nose dive. I believe that they can be tested from some of those mysterious plugs to nowhere in the engine compartment.
Invest in a FACTORY repair manual - mine has saved my a bunch o' money in easy fixes and keepinf the dealer honest.
