GEAR SWAPPING 95' V6 3.0 by BSR5M

I WAS WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST GEARING TO HAVE IN MY RIG. I DONT DO MUCH OFF-ROAD DRIVING AND WOULD LIKE BETTER ACCELERATION AND SPEED. I KNOW THIS TRUCK ISNT THE BEST FOR THAT, BUT IT IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT. I LOVE EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS TRUCK EXCEPT THAT IT IS A SLUG. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO? PLEASE ADVISE.

THANK YOU.

My first recommendation would be to save the $2500 for your next rig and live with the "performance" of a non-sports car. Unless - you can do the technical differential work yourself - or - you're having locking differentials installed.

I've got a 1996 4Runner (3.4l, S/C'd, ARB's front and rear, yadda yadda) and run 265/75 R16 tires on pavement with 4:56 gearing. I changed from the 3:93's that were stock for a SR5 with 225/75 R15 tires. Engine RPM's have increased by about 300 in each gear and it drives pretty nice. The best benefit is the low crawling speed while in low range off road. I probably could have gone with 4:88's but I'm happy with it the way it is now. ------------ BSR5M at 9/6/2001 9:07:43 AM

I had a my right front tires blow on th PA tunrpike. I was only going 70 mph. My 4 runner only has 5600 miles. When I went to the dealer to find out my this happened, they couldn't tell me. They said there was no puncture in the tire and that I didn't hit a pot hole. They did replace it for no charge and they said they checked the other three tires. They couldn't find anything wrong with the other tires. The tires I have are Dunlop AT20 Grandtrex. If anyone has had a similar problem or has known of a simailar problem please e-mail me.
