I have a '91 Toyota Pickup Xtra cab, V6, 4x4, 5 speed that origanaly came with 225/75/15s. How can i tell what gear ratio it came with besides manually estimating it. Is there a tag or insignea on the diff that identifies the ratio? Thanks.

im not aware of any markings that tell of gear ratio, but most chilton manuals will tell by year and model. They also tell u how to do everything else u could think of, or u could look it up on the net, im sure its easy to find.

Okay, here is what toyota did to help you figure out what gears you have in your truck. If you take off the drive shaft at the differential either front or rear and look at the pinion nut. They put a distinct pink, blue and one other color to identify what ratio you have. Its has been a while to remember which color has what ratio but, once you get the color call your dealer and they can let you know. If its 5speed its most likely pink with 4:10's with a 4cylinder engine.

Hope this helps.

Bill,

You poor bastard. While you are going to or phoning the dealer with the dot color (you know, after you have removed the driveshaft to check the color and all that messines), tell the parts person your complete VIN. With this, they can look up each and every part that your vehicle was assembled with. A for instance (oh, the vehicle was purchased in California - thia will mean something in a minute): when the washer pump on my truck died, I went to buy another. They sold me the "typical" pump which didn't fit. I went back and they gave me the "winter" version (a bit more power in the motor) and it didn't fit either. I went back and they asked for the VIN and did a look up - my truck was assembled with the Canadian winter washer reservoir and pump. I can clean the windshield now. The power of the VIN.

My vibration is at slow speeds also, so either a tire/wheel/s out of round or source is elsewhere.

My 03 has the click (but it's more of a snap or pop) about every 3-4 times I apply the brakes. Dealer won't acknowledge its existence, probably because they already replaced the master cylinder for making an electronic buzz. Basically, I traded a buzz for a pop. The pop is more tolerable but still annoying. Don't know what it is.
