so i am looking at getting a toyota rear locking diff out of a 01 tacoma. you can turn around and put them in the front of your mini truck. in my case an 85 front axle. you have to make a few mods to the housing but well worth it for a selectable locker. the only problem is that i am not that big on wiring i can do soddering and what not but i cant understand these schematics. any help would be much apprecitated. http://carterswebsite.com/4runner/mods/locker/#CONTROLLER

Actually it is pretty simple wiring Dan. You basically have power feed to a lock/unlock switch and they use relays which with a feed back for limit switches in diff prevent you from burning out actuator. Just wire it as it is drawn. Relays are shown in there static unpowered position if you use a ohm meter to confirm connections on it with power off. Pin 1 on diff is powered to drive actuator to lock position and when it is reached, the limit switch in diff removes power from relay coil. Pin 2 does same unlocking. You could simplify it and get rid of relays and wire Pin 1 to lock terminal on switch and pin two to unlock terminal and then get to indicator lights and wire one side of locked light to pin 3 and other side to 12v. Do same with Pin 4 for unlock. So wired, indicator light would go out when unit is locked (for lock light) or unlocked (for unlock light) If you want the indicator light to be one when locked you will have to use relays again. Also use a strong and flexible fine multi-stranded wire to connect diff to chassis and one that is well protected too. This is not a job for regular hookup or speaker wire. Did I confuse or loose you?

I see no relays with this kit. If you want I can draw you up a schematic tomorrow to do it with just a switch and indicator light. and no relays or with relays and lights.

that looks like a pretty sweet little kit. You could probably get all of that for 1/2 the price at Radio Shack, but it's all bundled together, so that makes it convenient.

You could always use an illuminated switch too, and simplify the wiring a tad bit more.

Either way, SnoMan is right... this is a pretty straightforward wiring setup. Should be really cool Danny!!!

P.S. - Send us some pictures of your creation man. It's been 6 months since I've seen it last!!!!!!

yea snowman that would be great if you could draw me up a simple schematic. the only reason i can see that they would use relays. is to turn the indicator light on oand off. i just dont want the motor to bing up if it engages to far. if you could walk me through on how the switches work on keeping the motor from over engaging that would also be great.

Okay, tell me how you want it to "work" or "control" and I will draw it up for you later today.

well i doesn't matter anymore. i got out bidded at the last second. i hate those motherf|_|ckers who have nothing to better to do than sit around and wait to the last second and run the bid up to right above what your maximum bid is.

Well Dan, I ALWAYS wait to last second to bid myself. If you really want something, that is the best and cheapest way to get it. (I learned this the hard way long ago) While it is not always the best for seller, it usually is for buyer. I even have some snipe software that does it automatically for me a few seconds before bid closes. (BTW, I did not bid on it)
