Gentlemen:
Just bought a 99 Silverado 1500, LT Extended cab, Z-71, cream puff. Love the truck (so far) but at about 65 mph (or less in a crosswind) there is an annoying wind noise cropping up in the front windshield/hood vicinity, sounds like a popping or rattle. Have checked out the plastic grille that fits under the wipers and that is snug. Easiest solution is to turn the stereo up. Next easiest is to remove grillework, trim, and wipers sequentially and drive it around until it is quieted. Next easiest is to strap my arse to the hood and fiddle with the trimwork while my wife drives around like a bat out of hell but this is somehow not as appealing as the other two. I would like to know if anyone has experienced the problem and had it fixed before I take it to the dealer to have another small problem addressed. I can imagine the dealers don't want to spend time on this type of fix and I can't say that I blame them, but it is rather annoying.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
James |

I had a 98 cheyenne and now have a 00 silverado z71 with the same problem. You need to have the cowling (black plastic at base of winshield, i.e. air vent) repacked. It will snug it all up and stop the rattle.
