I have a 2000 Z71, with the factory cd player ( Delco ). The cd player is now giving an err message after inserting a cd and then ejecting the disk after a couple of seconds. I checked the disks and theres nothing wrong with them. I also tried cleaning it, but no luck with that as well. I have read a post in the archives where a couple of people seemed to have the same problem, but there was no post mentioning a solution to this problem. Has anybody else had this problem? If so, was anything able to fix it? Thanks a head of time. Kevin

Hey KP - This appears to be a plaguing problem for the '99 and '00 Chevy trucks (Subhumans, Z-series, etc.) I found some discussions on this in our archives:

I'm not sure this solves your problem, but you may want to see if there's a way to "reset" the CD player as described in the above post.

I've got a 98 Z71 and I added on a factory CD player to the radio. My CD player will occasionally give me an ERR message and then eject the CD. I just put it back in and it plays fine. I've found that it does it only on startup or when I go from on to the accessories on the key.

Thanks Web I will look into this for sure. It will sure help me out rather than buying a after market rip off CD player thats for sure.

My problem sounds a lot like the others in the archives, and I hope there is a solution for this. My CD player just spits the cd out just a couple of seconds after being inserted ( showing ERR ), and if I try to re-insert it it just does the same thing over again( ERR and spit).

This might sound strange but my radio began doing this for the first time this winter. I live just north of Philly, and on days when the temperature is in the mid thirties or below it does this. When it's warmer out it works fine. Is this just a coincidence? It seems all to common of a problem to be temp related.

Thanks, Ken Go Eagles!!!!!

I've also *just* heard that excesive humidity will do it to the Chevy CD players as well.

I think they're just hyper-sensitive to climate changes.

Does anyone know if there's an aftermarket direct replacement for them?

Rick

Hey everyone, I am the new owner of a 99 chevy silverado Z-71. I am having issues with my cd player and I am wondering if there was a solution. They are just like what you are experiencing. Thanks for any help you may give. Dace

I have an 01 Z71 that is doing the same thing and i dont know what is causing it. I saw someone mention excessive humidity. Well living on the Texas coast we are usually at about 75% or better so i could see how that could be a cause of my problem.

Yeah, those head units were junk. I think it's best to swap it out for something new at this point.
