| Well, I know that all the electronic doodads in our vehicles today are suppossed to make life a lot easier. And I will be one of the first to admit to this. However, they can be a pain in the butt. I had asked everyone here a few weeks ago about a problem with gas mileage that I was getting with my 1998 Z71 with the 350 Vortec. All over the 'net I was reading of guys getting 17 mpg in town and 21 on the highway, which is where I do the majority of my driving. And there I was getting a miserable 12. My CEL kept coming on for a rear O2 sensor. So I did some surfing on the net and found out that they can cause bad mileage. So I forked over the $250 for four new ones and changed them out. No change. So I started doing some more surfing. Come to find out, one of the problems that can cause your gas mileage to decrease is a bad gas cap. This doesn't allow the evaporative emissions control system to function properly. I found out from a friend that this is a major killer of gas mileage and power. Perfectly good truck, but a bad $10 gas cap was causing me a headache trying to trace the problem following the promptings of my computer in my truck. A little advice to all: the OBD 2 system isn't a cure-all that can pinpoint where the problem is. It just tells you that something is wrong and points to the rabbit hole. Before leaping into the hole, do some searching on the net. There is a wealth of knowledge out there. Just needed to get this off my chest. |

| Glad you told us about this... Admittedly, I heard about the gas cap issue, but completley forgot about it. |
