It only rattles when I turn it on. It's not loud but very annoying. Anybody have any clues whats wrong with it? Should I just kick it? The model truck is a 98 GMC Sierra Z71. Thanks

It's likely the blower fan inside the heater box. Sometimes something gets trapped in there, sometimes it gets out of balance, but most likely, the bushing wore out in the fan blade.
You should be able to get a replacment blower for it and change it out in about 30 - 45 minutes.

| I'll have to check it out. Do you know if you can get fans at autozone or just a dealer? thanks, rick. |

Not sure. AutoZone carries some blower motors, but they don't have a huge stock.
They can likely order one though, or you can check some other less commericialized parts stores as sometimes they carry more of that type of stuff.

| ok, back with other problem. Haven't had a chance to take the heater box apart but I have noticed that my fan runs on the "feet" all the time. The air/heat will be off but the "feet" vents still blow out air. Any suggestions? |

I'm not sure if they still use vaccuum diaphrams in that year model or not (I don't think it is, I think they're electronically controlled), but there is a motorized baffling system that controls "where" the air is diverted to. This is likely the problem.
The only other place it could be is within the climate control panel, which used to be a big problem in the late 80's for Chevy.
A service manual (Haynes, Chilton's, etc.) will show you how to check both of these, and they're usually pretty easy to fix once you identify where the problem is.
