| I'm new to the offroad world, so can anyone explain to me what is "Prerunner"? Is it a type of truck, or type of offroading like rock crawling and mud boggling??? What are the different types of offroading? Thanks alot for any clarification. |

Yeah, I know about the Toyota, but I've read on other offroad sites, they mention prerunner, but they're not referring to Toyota. Like I've read one of the posting on this site that said something like, lifting a 2wd chevy truck will give it a prerunner look, I don't think they're referring to Toyota. There's no way a Chevy looks like a Toyota nor would it want to.

A couple things:
A "Prerunner" is a term used for a two wheel drive truck that "pre-runs"
off-road races, such as the Ivan Stewart Challenge (or similar). It is faster and cheaper to use this type of truck instead of the full bore race truck. Competitors are usually allowed to pre-run the race course in this type of vehicle only.
The Toyota Tacoma Prerunner is two wheel drive, and when equipped with the TRD package, comes with a locking rear differential (yes, on the two wheel drive) and full off road suspension. In theory, this truck runs faster than the four wheel drive (as mentioned above), and the rear locker can be used to get you out of slippery situations, should you get stuck.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the clarification C-Dog. One last question, how does a rear locking differential get a vehicle out when it's stuck? It's still a 2-wheel drive vehicle, if the rear tires are stuck, the front tires would have to spin to get traction, wouldn't it? Thanks again.

because normally when you are stuck tecnacly only one tire will spin, and when you lockem in then you have both spinning. but pesranlly i think the 4x4 would work better. but that would help. my dad had a s10 that had a possy track and would lock in after 100 rotations of just spinning whithout grip and it was awsome to wach that little truck go. lol coundnt stop it.
