I am debating between getting a 2wd 1500 or a 4wd 1500(Z71), between 1990-1995. I use it for normal commuting and minor offroading. I live in southern California, so 4wd is not a necessity, but I like it. Other than looks and ride height, what other advantages would lifting a 2wd truck have, in terms of offroad performance? What about reliability? I heard that the 4wd components wear out much faster. Should I be concern about this. Some of you hard core 4 wheelers may laugh at a lifted 2wd truck, but really, how well can a lifted 2wd perform off road? Thanks for any input.

if your getting a 2wd it better have power to be able wheel where 4wds play.4wd components do not wear faster you just got more parts to wear. I had a 2wd lifted with 35s it was powerd by 400hp. it did good untill id play with my friends with 4wd they had 35s as well for the exeption of one with 42s we would drive together through all types of obsticals yet i wass always last. then came time to cross amuddy field i gunnd it 1/4 ofthe way and bogged down they just rolled across.now im the big gun with a hefty 4wd on 44s.so if your not going to wheel much focus on a powerfull 2wd . ------------ Mark at 4/30/2002 5:43:11 PM

it really depends on the terrain ur going to be doing ur offroading.... i live on a beach in southern texas and at times the sand is really loose... its really the only thing i use my 4wd for.... but i love it... and so do the ladies...hahaha....i guess u do have a 2wd at the present time??? if u do and ur not having any problems on the offroading then a souped up 2wd will probably be fine.... i recently went from a 2wd to a 4wd and i dont know if i will ever go back.... but i think i just like having the status of a z71 owner... good luck on ur decision... ------------ at 5/11/2002 4:07:18 AM

dude, definatly go for the 95 and if you can the 96 is great gotta have the 4 wheel drive and the extended cab. put some 33's on it and you'll love it. Excellent off road vehicles. my first chevy still runs strong and i have 315000 miles. if you take care of it, it will definatly last you a good while. great vehicles, must get black or dark blue. later
