| I am new to the forum and also this is my first 4 wheel drive vehicle. I bought the suburban locally and was told everything worked. I read the manual to see how to use the 4 wheel drive portion and it says the light should come on when engaged. I have no light. I know 4 wheel high works as the gearing is evidently different. How do I know if 4 wheel low is working? Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi OC
Actually, you'll only notice a difference in gearing in 4-LO, not 4-HI. However, if you put your truck in 4-HI or 4-LO and drive it around a corner on the street, you'll likely feel a jerking motion. If so, then you know your 4-wheel drive is functional.
HOWEVER - don't do this under heavy acceleration or for a prolonged time as you'll most definately break something. Do it once, if you feel the jerking motion, you know you're all set and you can look to replace the bulb in the dash.

Thanks Rick, I did get those backwards....high and low. I try that and see what happens. So the light is supposed to come on and go out after it engages?
thanks again

No problem.
Yes - the light should come on and stay on when you have your truck in 4-HI or 4-LO, and go off when you put it in 2-HI.
