If you were to ask me i think that all these new suv`s suck off road i think that if you really want to get into off roading you need to get yourself a pickup truck or a jeep. The Z71 truck by chevrolet and GMC is your best bet. with the most hp and torque in its class it makes it a beast off road. take it from me cause i own a 98 Z71. trust me it is so much better than a ford off road. Recently i went off roading in a new ford 4x4 off road. one word WEAK. my truck is so much better. so take my advice if your looking for real off roadin get in a Z71.

Or you go one step further and get yourself a 2-door Tahoe Sport or Yukon GT with a z71 pkg. Shorter wheelbase, better weight distribution, and somewhat more classy. However, the bottom line is that Z71 trucks and suvs kick ass. ------------ Roger Clark at 12/8/98 11:32:59 AM

Z-71 is the package name for a fully loaded off-road Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche and anything similar from GMC. This doesn't really mean that the trucks are meant for off-road but it is the package name for specific models.

The Z-71 package usually includes skid plates (cheesy stamped steel fairly worthless), Bilstein shocks, uprated torsion bars (higher spring rating than normal half-ton, less than 3/4-ton), and stickers on the side. ------------ at 5/22/2002 9:19:44 AM

don't forget a 14 bold rear end and slightly larger leaf springs. ------------ KC at 5/22/2002 11:48:40 AM

The "Z71" actually is the last 3 digits for the frame I.D. on the truck. The same goes for "ZR2" on the S-10. ------------ Geoff at 2/1/2003 3:47:37 PM
