I was talking to a salesman that is selling a truck on ebay and asked him what the fuel mileage of the truck was (he mentioned that it was his personal vehicle for 6 months).
He said it got around 15mpg city driving and 18-19mpg cruising at 72mph on the highway with air conditioning on.
The truck is a 2004 Z71 (all options) 5.3L w/ 4.10 gears 10,000 miles.
Can one (hopefully more) of you tell me if that is true or even possible?
Thanks in advance |

| That sounds about right, give or take an MPG here or there. |

Yes I think it is doable if you keep the tires stock and full of air. If you are thinking about a lift and big tires though, the MPG will go right out the window. |

Shouldn't be a problem. When I was shopping for vehicles on ebay I was trying to figure out how to economically reduce the lift of some trucks and sell the parts to someone that wanted to lift theirs. (Lifted trucks seem to have more accesories that I want, except for the lift of course. Not that I wouldn't mind a lifted truck, but I can only afford to have one good vehicle and that vehicle has to get respectible gas mileage.) |

| IF YOU KEEP IT JUST GEAR IT TO HELP W/ THE POWER & GAS MILAGE.
ON SOME SUSPENSION LIKE RANCHO ETC.. SOME OF THE MOUNTS & BRACKETS ARE CUT
& WELDED OFF THE ORIGINAL SUSPENSION SO THAT YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO GO
BACK TO THE STOCK RIDE HEIGHT.
PROCOMP, FULL THROTLE, SKYJACKER & MORE OUT THEIR ARE BOLT ON.
SO YOU CAN GO BACK TO STOCK RIDE HEIGHT.

Off topic question, but how do you guys do that fancy "quote" thing?

If you raise it and install big rubber the MPG will drop from added drag. Proper gearing will help some but the extra drag is still there and it takes more fuel to offset it. |

I think the quotes he gave you was from the window sticker, don't go by that. I have a 2004 Silverado Automatic Transmission 5.3 L Extended Cab Z71 with Autotrac (Run in 2HI not Auto- cuts fuel economy- unless you need it) with a 3.73 gear ratio. It has 8000 miles and is 18 months old. At first I got 14 Miles mixed driving and around 17 on the highway. I put a Borla Cat-Back split rear dual exhaust and a Tri-glass hard tonneau cover on and now get 17-18 mixed with 20+ on the highway. Next I will upgrade my air filter for a little more MPG. I just about get the fuel economy that my 1995 S-10 4 cylinder with 225/75-15 Wrangler RT-S tires gets. I lost some on the S-10 when I went up two sizes on the tires (with no lift kit- they do fit). Just watch your foot- it plays a lot in fuel economy on this heavy truck, if you want to race be prepared to pay for it- one way or the other! |

Somehow this sounds far fetched. Typically town MPG decreases with a cat back system. If you bought the vehical new MPG will increase after 5 to 10k miles or more. |
