I have a 01 chevy 2500hd 8.1 litre. I am hearing a grinding noise from rear axle only when i take off slow. If I take off quick it makes no noise. It only happens when I first start to roll. Any ideas? Ps just bought the truck.

How many miles on it and have you ever checked or changed the lube in the rear axle?

Glad you hear you had a happy ending. Sometimes those two piece drive shafts with a carrier bearings can be a royal pain. With a lift you are really better off with a one piece one as it generally reduces ujoint angles.

You may need to consider a CV joint d-shaft if you go that route though.

I had an 04 2500hd and it had a one piece aluminum driveshaft. Much better. Any idea on cost? With the 8.1 it puts a lot of torque and I can see the same thing happening again.
