I have a D60 out of an 80s chevy dually. The problem is that the hub sticks out quite a bit. Can that changed out easily, or is there alot of work involved. This axle was like 400 bucks so I couldnt turn it down. Any info would help on the spindle deal!!

Are we talking about a front or rear axle?

Since he mentioned "hub", I'm assuming he's talking about the front axle. Some of the older D44's and D60's had particularly long hubs that could stick out nearly as far as the outside of your rim, particularly if you're running a narrow rim, or not enough offset.

ChevyMan - you do have an option now with this setup. Dynatrac just came out with a new product that they're calling their "stub hub". Here's a cut-a-way picture of it:

Dynatrac's Stub Hub is nearly 2.4" shorter than your stocker, and it's also considerably shorter. Here's a link: http://www.dynatrac.com/products_stubhub.html

That is kinda neat. My old 72 GMC had a very long hub that was about even with tires or maybe a bit past them. The problem with this kit though is that the $400 axle is no longer a very good deal if you have to buy this kit.

I guess you have to take the good with the bad... [)] The upside is that Dynatrac's stub-hubs are virtually indestructible. Combine that with 4340's and good u-joints, and it's doubtful that you'll break it.

For what it's worth, I'm relatively confident that the short style hubs cannot be fitted onto the long-hub style axles.

Great info on the DynaTrack....though, can I just find some knuckles off a reagular 1 ton chevy that wasn't a dually? This way I can keep the cost down, and bring the wheels back where they need to be? As opposed to sticking 4 inches out, lol

I'm about 95% sure that you can not just bolt on the hub. What I believe you CAN do though, it bolt on the entire outter assembly though, as the inner "C's" can be the same. If you do this, you may have to use different outter axles though, as the spline count will likely be different. It's not that big of a deal though.

They do not look as bad with a negative off set wheel, the factory dually front wheels are usually positive off set so the lugs are even sticking out or flush with the rim. When you put a wheel some backspacing, not to much or they will stick way out, then the hub does not appear to be sticking out so far. I am assuming its a wide track front since it came with a dually, the single axle trucks with the dana 60 in front usually do not have the wide track be cause they did not come with the dually style wheels.

You know it's going to be a good day when you get the milk to cereal ratio correct on the first bowl.

Rodger that, it is a wide track axle. I was just hoping I could remove everything up to the knuckle, then put on a regular track style spindle and outer hub.

You should be able to but that is a lot of work.

If you're axle is on jackstands though, nows the time to do it. Replacing everything from the outter "C", out... is much easier to do when it's out of the vehicle.

You'll need a couple special tools to do this though... You'll need a hub socket (or two... they might be different between hubs), and you'll need a special tool that looks like a regular socket, but has 4 teeth sticking out of the top of it. That's what you'll use to set the balljoint sleeves (I completely forgot what those are called - sorry).

Like SnoMan said, it's a lot of work. But, it's not overly hard. A couple of evenings, a good manual, and a case of your favorite cold beverage should get you through it.

Right on Webby and SnoMan, I shall see what I can do! And in case anyone cares, my favorite cold beverage for this project is Guiness \

Those adjustment sleeves are likely fused with rust and may prove to be a royal pain to remove or adjust. Better add a good torch to tool kit (not a propane one) for this and a 3/4 inch drive impact too.
