What's the year, make and model of your truck?

Also, there are two motors that actuate 4WD in many Chevy trucks - the front actuator that engages the front axles, and the "encoder motor" that engages the transfer case.

And there is two front axle actuators styles too. 88 thru 97 is a thermoexpansion design and 98 to present is a servo motor controlled design. The later style will stay keep front axle locked when truck is turned off, the earlier thermo model will not. The new style can be retrofitted in place of older style.

Yep, GM has a harness adaptor and instructions for the retrofit. Many think PosiLock is the best way to go but the newer servo one and pretty reliable and sealed while PosiLocks are not sealed. It is a shame beacue for a few more buck I have little doubt that they could have come up with a better protected stepup for PosiLock. If you have a troublsome 88 thru 97, you want to do the upgrade retrofit and not the posilock.

if you need the front actuator you can order it from rockauto.com they are really quick about getting your parts to you. and they are cheaper than most auto places in town
