I'm considering buying a 2 dr 96 blazer. 4.3 v6 automatic 4-wheel drive. I'm concerned about fuel economy - any input?

good gas milage, good power. reliable motor, expensive when it does break. especially fuel system components. otherwise, they are good motors and trucks.

Much to many chagrin, the MPG of these can increase a noticeable amount (along with performance) if you use 89 octane or better fuel in one. The 4.3 is based on the 350 minus two cylinders and the 350 craves octane to do its best. You cannot rely on the old adage that if it is not knocking all is well because the knock sensor on those engine (to limit consumer complaints as they seek to burn the cheapest fuel they can find) quells knock before you hear it by retarding spark and with it performance and MPG, especially in hot weather. Where it not for the knock sensor you would know the instant you stepped on the gas that 87 octane was not enough. Given todays fuel prices even a very marginal improvement in MPG that 89 or better can bring can more than offset higher fuel price. 87 is a throw back from the 70's and 8 to 1 CR and big oil likes to sell it to you because it cost less to make and they sell more of it because of silent efficiency losses which is good for their bottom line. I personal do not use 87 in any of my modern vehicles. The only one I use it in is a old Jeep truck with 8 to 1 compression.

Thanks. Consumer reports say 15 mpg (4 dr). Have you found the 2-dr to be any better than that?

Be advised the EPA CAFE MPG rating test are conducted using 93 octane fuel, not 87 but they are not required to tell you that on sticker but is is quite clear in test regs if you dig into them. (this is one of many reasons why EPA MPG and real world can vary so much at times)
