The "official" way it to measure from center on front lower control arm bolt where it attaches to frame to a line the is even with lower edge of ball joint and parallel to ground (GM did not make it easy) This distance is spec'ed to be 4.5 inches with a acceptable service range of 4.3 to 4.8 inches.
