Wow Snoman - There is a mountain of good information there. If you dont mind I will offer a quick overall explanation before he dives into the calculations.
When you look at a tires sidewall on a passenger car tire you will often see a number that looks like this...
P235/75 R 15.
P = Tire type - in this case you are dealing with a Passenger car tire.
235 = Tread width in millimeters.
75 = Aspect ratio - in other words - The tire is 75% as tall as it is wide - This is important to note becasue it establishes a relationship between tread width and sidewall height. If the aspect ratio is 75 on a 285 and a 235 then a 285 tire is not only wider but also taller.
R = Construction type - in this case radial
15 = Rim diameter in inches.
Armed with this basic information you should now be able to visit Snomans site and play with the computers that will tell you how different size tires will affect your vehicle. |
