not really sure is there a way of telling what kind it is ..i clled a local junk yard to see if they buy my left over stuff such the chasiss , 2 350 motors an the cab an front clip .they said no but if i wanted to geet rid of they for free they would take them .heck the 2 motors got to be worth something.

is it auto, or manual?

Take a peek at: http://www.4x4review.com/tech/Top10Trans/ and let me know if it's one of those.

Take a couple of pictures and post it to the baords here. Most of us can tell what it is just by looking at it.

Can you click off a few photos? I might be intrested in it, and if not, I think I know someone who might be.

1mx1 is likely just a casting or plant ID number or something. The ID # on a 700R4 will look something like 8YDM21H (8 = model year, YDM=car application, etc.)

well if you sit them side by side there is no differ besides the 4 bolts that hold on the that long tail shaft..so if that tailshaft comes off what does that tailshaft look like i dont want to screw this tranny up by taking it of unless i know it will work ..unless someone wants to buy it i have no use for it beside sit up for a spare if it would work in a 4x4

Yes and no. (more not really) A true 4x4 version of tranny has a much stronger case to be able to control the counter torque of Tcase bolted to it. using a 2wd tranny in a 4x4 can result is a very bad day if you play hard and case breaks.

Sell it as a 2-wheel drive version just to be safe... I was doing some digging and can't find any references that there were case differences between them though - weird.

You know, I was reading an article somewhere where these guys did the unthinkable. The transformed a damned near mint 70 chevy 4x4 to a 2 wheel drive and slammed it. But they kept the THM350 and converted the tailshaft. Now, I know they arent similar trannys or anything...but I could of swore I heard some one say that you can do the same with a 700R4. But you should be able to get good cash out of a 2WD 700R4 if you find some one wanting to put it in a streetrod.
