Look for the "475" model Turbo 400 as it's the strongest of the 27-year run that the T400 was available. You can found in 1971 and up 3/4 to 1+ ton trucks.

If you want the very best Turbo 400 transmission, then get the 3L80-HD (a super-stout T400) that could be found in 1987 and up 3/4 to 1+ ton trucks.

Take a peek at an article I wrote, which can be seen here... http://www.4x4review.com/tech/Top10Trans/ - scroll down about 7/8th of the way down the page and see the Turbo 400 remarks.

Regards, Rick

Yep I agree with Webby on this for sure. I am currently in the process of swapping in my 3L80-HD and NP205 into my 84 Chevy Shortbed. Its a great bolt it setup. Though, I would get the rear drive shaft from the donor truck, this way you will have the right drive shaft ends when you go to have it cut and welded to length.

Great call on the driveshaft!

If you can't find one though, be sure to give Tom Woods driveshaft a call, and tell him that Rick Webster from 4X4REVIEW.COM sent you. He'll take good care of you!
