Also, in regards to your question about running tranny fluid in your engine...

Yes, you can do this, but you can't fill your engine with trans fluid only. You can do about a 1/4 to 1/3rd quart of ATF. HOWEVER, there is a downside... while this will serve as a detergent to scrub / clean the engine, it will likely start some leaks in other areas (e.g. rear main seal, etc.). It's an old trick and it works to free up gunk, but more often than not, it causes new leaks.

See my response at: http://www.4x4review.com/discussions2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4647 regarding the question about changing the oil pump.

If you've not done it before, I might recommend that you take it to a qualified mechanic. It's not an easy task.

Don't bother cleaning the pump pickup. If you're there, you might as well change the oil pump.

Other than that, the oilpump is as easy to install as replacing your oilpan gasket. Which is challenging somtimes, but not difficult. You wont need special tools to do it either. And a brand new welded oil pump is pretty inexpensive, under 50 for sure. I think I paid like 30 for mine. It is a good idea to replace it though.

You should also consider running a good oil pump, from a company like Melling (don't go with the cheap crap, or you'll be replacing it again). A good Melling oil pump will likely last as long (if not longer) than your engine.

If you can't find a welded-on oil pump pickup, then you can have someone you know tack weld it yourself.

Also, be sure the prime the oil pump with Vasoline, otherwise you might starve the engine when you fire it up the first time.

i might be wrong but i think you have to pull the motor a couple inches up off the motor mount to be able to slide the pan out. i cant remebere or not. but anyways if you are going to attempt this you are gonna need to use the oil pan to get the motor up and then some how support the motor while you take the oil pan off by like sitcking a 2x4 where the motor mount usally sits. it might not be the case but like i said im not for sure on the model. but being that it is a IFS i am pretty sure you will have to do this. so you might want to take it to the profesionals and it probably wont be to cheap being that it takes the better part of a day to do.

I agree you will need to remove the motor mounts and lift the motor. But it is still not a terribly hard install. Just time consuming.
