| This has really stumped me. My truck will start by its self if it is in park it has never had a remote starter installed and I have traced the wires and have found no problems. It can be running in park and the starter will engage if I then turn the key off the starter will still engage. The only way it will stop is if I take it out of park, or pull out the main fuse. I have replaced the starter the alternator the ignition assembly in the column. It also blows fuses out around the truck like the horn, interior light and other weird things. If you think that you could have a lead on fixing the problem please contact me. I really need my truck back.
Thanks,
Pat

It sounds like it has a remote-start feature failure, or an alarm system failure. Here's why...
On some remote-start alarm systems (where you press a button on the key fob, the motor starts), the safety system is that if you step on the break or put it out of gear, the motor dies. I know... this is very loosely tied, but i'd be curious to know if you have an alarm or remote-start system on there.
Look under the dash to see if there's an alarm system that may have been installed by the previous owner.

| What year Z71 is this? I remember hearing about a problem very similar to this with a 04 silverado. The starter would engage randomly while it was parked and off. The ignition would not come on so it would just crank until the battery was disconnected, or like you said, when the main fuse taken out. If this this is still an issue let me know and i will look into whether that problem was solved. I think it came down to a hidden short somewhere in a loom or connector but im not sure if that was the final conclusion/fix. DM |
