Looking to buy a suburban for my kids.  Seems when I do a search, the 1999 model keeps coming up 5 to 1 in both C and K.  What is it about the 1999 model?  Bothers me that everyone is trying to sell it.  Am I missing something here?

yea it was the last year for the body style and the first year for the new style but they did major referbs on them new motor came out the 5.3/ if it is a true K truck your good that square body style in bullit proof and the 5.7 vortec is one of the best lasting and can take all kinds of abuse lol. so yea what models are you looking at make sure the build date was in 98 not 99 cause they releases on that was a 99 in like middle yeat i think. so yea def want the K series.

Well....as it goes, I think I have settled on a 1994 K1500 with only 86,000 original miles.  In great shape.  Guy asking $4900, which means I can get it for $4,000.  Going to go see it in the morning.  So any input you have on the 94 would be great.  Do you know if the odometer is digital or mechanical, and if mechanical, is it the million mile type or the old style.  Just want ot make sure 86k is 86k.

What do you think about the engine in that year, 94?  Thanks

If it is mechanical it will have million mile type. the only problem with the 94 is one they are OBD1 which means they are a little harder to work on cuase the computer system is not as smart. TWo the 5.7 probably isnt a vortec adnt his will mean not as much power.

I would sincerely doubt that even your average Chevy would last 860,000 miles. :) It would definately LOOK like it had 860,000 miles on it, if it did. :)

94 was the first year of the new front grill and last year of the square plastic interior. 95 marked the first year of the upgraded interior and the introduction of the 5.7L (350) Vortech fuel injected motor. Also, the tranny went from the 700R4 to the 4L60E/80E Which if I remember right stands for "longetudanally placed 4 speed, good for 60k or 80k, and is electricly controlled". The difference between it and the 700R4 being that the 4L is electrically controlled. 99 was the first year for the digital odometer I believe,. And yes, the regular odometer in the 94 does have six digits, so no rollover can occur. The only thing I dont like about the 92-94 models is the interior. Also remember that you are buying a K1500. Which means you have a Corporate 10 bolt axle in the rear. These are not good for towing in stock form. If you need to town anything at all, I would at least get a 3.4 ton.

Later in the 700R4's life, it was re-badged as the 4L60 and carried this name until 1993, when the 4L60-"E" model (electronic shift control) was introduced. The 4L60 is an acronym that stands for 4-speeds, L-longitudinally positioned, and 60-6000 lbs. GVW - a naming convention still in use by GM today.

Now, others argue that the "60" or "80" stands for the torsional strength of the transmission measured in newtons (or something like that), but we've not been able to confirm that with Chevrolet. :)
