I am in the market for one of these nice mini 4x4 and see some adverised with rear locking differential, some with limited slip read diff and some dont mention it. Anyone know if this was a stock option or standard?

I did some digging inside GM's media publications and there is no mention that the Blazer (ZR2 or otherwisze) ever came with an OE locking diff, but they did have an optional limited slip rear end. The limited slip (in my humble opinion) is a piece of junk and they typically wear out wihtin the first year anyhow. This is relatively true with any limited slip differential.

Depending where you're seeing this advertised, my guess is that the "rear locking diff" is a typo, and they really mean limited slip - or, someone installed an aftermarket locking differential. You should probably ask about those that are advertised with a locking diff.

Whether is is standard or optional it will show up as a G80 in the option codes in glove box if it is installed from factory.

As far as the G80 "GovLoc" being a bit weak I would have to agree with this too when used in the 10 bolt axles. With this axle and big rubber the diff is a time bomb of sorts. But by the same token the G80 GovLoc in a 14 bolt 9.5" or 10.5" is a whole different animal strength wise and a lot more durable so it is the axle size/type the limits the G80's durabilty more so than its overall design. If you really want a bullet proof rear end posi unit and you have a 10 bolt rear axle, you would be money ahead in the long run to swap out to a 14 bolt 9.5 GM rear axle which can be found with 6 lug hubs too and is a much stronger axle over all (axles, housing and diff) than a 10 bolt. The 9.5's are pretty much bulletproof up to 38's or so.
