WELL MY TRANS TO WENT SOUTH. AT 83OOO MILES. HAS ANYBODY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM? ILL FIND OUT IF STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARR. TOMMORROW. IT MIGHT NOT BE DUE TO MY 8INCH LIFT & 35 TIRES BUT OH WELL NOW I COULD UP GRADE TO A HD TRANS.

Hahaha. yeah, 35 inch tires put just a tad more stress on the drive line than the OE rubber. Be sure to get your built up trans from a shop that has done dozens of these transmissions before and knows how to do it right the first time. Im curious, how many miles ago did you put the 35s on?

Also - make sure that you're adjusting your axle gear ratios accordingly. This will certainly help reduce some of the stress, but not all.

i got my trans done already installed a hd cooler. almost the size of my radiator w/ electric fan. the guy removed the trans, rbebuilt it & installed w/ cooler & fan for $800.00. i supplied the fan & wiring. he also gave a 12month warrenty. i had my computer adjusted w/ my tires & gears at the same time w/ the lift. that was at 2300 miles. iwas probebly the first person in tx. w/ new truck w/ a lift. i got pulled over 3x by cops to look at my truck. they said the havent seen a new truck w/ a lift yet in san antonio.

Yes and I would say more than just a tad bit too! It is a classic mistake where people put on big rubber and leave gear stock. With 35's you are looking at 4.56 to 4.88's (depending on engine size and use) with 4.10's being too tall. ALso it is not just the effect on overall gear ratio but on the drag as well from higher profile and increased rolling resistance too. Deeper gears help balance this all out.

And a aux cooler too? (heat is number one enemy of trannies) Also did your service it regularly?

You did nor mention is you were using a aux tranny cooler. In that heat it is a must have for towing.

Be carefull as you can over cool oil in cool weather. Somewhere in between those two sizes might be better. ALso make sure oil is routed through tank cooler first then aux cooler.

Good point SnoMan - overcooling oil (trans or engine) can be bad for the truck. Engine oil is more suceptible to this (viscosity varies by temp), but even trans oil can change its consistency with temperature too.

An electrically controlled, or thermastatically controlled cooler is the best bet, as it will only come on when it's needed, versus over-cooling the trans when you don't need it. I'd also HIGHLY recommend a trans temp gauge. They can be purchased for about $40 and will provide you with critical data.
