| You should probably check your O2 sensor(s) sometimes there is one before and after the cat. Otherwise you may want to run the computer to see if there are any anomolies. Also, your iginition system may be having an issue, and or your fuel pump might be having a problem too. |

| I took it to auto zone and they hook a computer to it and said that some of the cylinders are misfireing, and that i should change the sparkplugs and disturbutor/rotor he said thats what the computer showed does that sound right. would that cause the truck to sputter. What do you mean by the iginition system what are the o2 sensors what do they look like sorry I pretty dumb when it comes to trucks |

Bad plugs and wire can make a engine run really bad. If they have not been replaced for a long time start there. If it still has issues, you might do a fuel pressure check next but change plugs and wires first. |

those test are very reliable w/ the obdII.
they dont really tell you what wrong w/ them at times. its
just a general idea.
i dont think its your fuel pump. either
dam i dont remember if your truck has a ignition coil.
at times they will get hot & start to short out internally & cause
missfire on muli cylinders.
as soon it cools of it will run smoth as glass.
do you remeber what codes the were

sorry i did not clarify.
the alt. can also get hot & start drooping amps to you computer
causing it to start shutting down you a/c or heater to make up voltage.
as in cables your postive & ground wire from your batt.

I wouldnt focus on the alternator. If your alternator is acting up you will be having other problems (like a dead battery).
I concur with everyone else - start with the plugs and wires. If one of your wires has a pinhole in it (which is not uncommon) it will short out against the block - particularly when you accelerate. This will feel like a sputter.
After that I would consider checking the fuel filter. That is usually another cheap fix that can cause a sputter.
If none of those things fix it then you might be looking at any number of thigs like ignition problems - O2 sensors (which would probably show up when they scanned it).
Either way - start cheap and easy. These are things that need to be done anyway. |
