So, I am sitting in the truck with my co-worker and we are talking trucks(naturally). We get on the subject of axles, and he comes up with a statement, fact, myth (I dont know). He states that you can A. convert a GM 10 Bolt rearend into a full floater. B. He also says you can put a Warn (or whatever brand) locking hub on the same axle...now, this is wierd for me. I think maybe I heard of something like this before, but to the best of my knowledge...it is BS. So...with that said, what do all you guys have to say about this. Myth, Busted: or Confirmed? and if confirmed, where did you get your info. Also, did GM EVER put out a 14 bolt with a stock 45 spline configuration? Because, I have one...very odd to me. And the axle shaft is much larger in dimension.

Hey ChevyMan - if you're talking about the rear axle, unfortunately you've lost that argument... Warn does (or at least did at one time) make a 10-bolt full-floater conversion. Also, they did make a hub kit for it, but I think it's discontinued.
Regarding 14-bolt axles - I've never heard of a 45-spline axle. You can get 31 and 35 spline conversions for them though, and I think there were some full-floater options with 30-splines from the factory too.

THere would be nothing gained in making a 10 bolt a full floater because its weakness is not because it is a semi floater but because it is a weak design from pig to housing. The 14 bolt 9.5 inch semi floater that is often over looked is a pretty stout axle and is a lot stronger from pig to housing than a 10 bolt or 12 bolt.

Sweet, thank you for that info. Hey, at least I won the point that it would be useless to convrt a 10 bolt in that fashion....unless you had a Toy or something. Thanks for the info.
