I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban Z71 and over the past few months something weird has been going on with my 4x4 push buttons. When I first start the truck, the red "neutral" light on the 4x4 button cluster is lit. The truck seems to drive fine. But if I try to select AUTO4WD, 4WD HI, 4WD LO, or even 2WD, the amber light flashes for a while but then goes back to the just red "N" light (as though the transfer case is in neutral) and none of the amber lights are lit. Now I know the truck really isn't in neutral since it drives fine. I don't hear any of the actuators engaging when I press the 4WD buttons and the truck seems to be running in 2WD.

This 1st happened a few months ago. When I turned off the ignition and let the truck sit overnight, the next morning they system was in 2WD and the button worked properly. Now, over the past week, its happened twice. Each time, when I turn off the truck and come back in a few hours later, the system is fine.

HELP! What's the deal here? Last week, when I would put the left turn signal on my hazards would go on instead. Then that problem magically went away and now this one popped up. Do I have a gremlin on board?

Why can't Chevy just skip the fancy buttons and go back to the tried and true 4wd shift lever? Heck, as a poor kid in Brooklyn, NY I had an 86 Isuzu Trooper with a 4wd lever and never had a single problem with the 4wd system (but come to think of it, everything else on the truck was crap).

AS USUSAL............THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP.

Try removing the fuse for the 4wd controller and leaving it out for a while (10 to 15 minutes) then install it and let controller reboot with memory cleared as it may be corrupted. The wonders of push and pray 4x4 drive.
