| It will be less expensive to wheel the K5, and the ZR2 will be less expensive to drive to work. That will be your main difference. Lifting an S10 costs alot of money and is a relativly hard project for at home...unless you are a decent welder and have all the tools. The K5 is VERY easily upgradable. Being a 1990, the K5 will have Fuel Injection. So it will do alot better on gas. If the K5 is in really good condition, I would go for it. Especially since it will be alot cheaper. |

| The K5 hands down. It would cost less to buy even though it would cost more to drive gas wise. It would also be a lot easier to work on as it is a lot lower tech and the TBI injection is VERY reliable and easy to fix too. Besides that the K5 is a classic too and near the last of its kind in production run. BTW, I have a 89 4x4 burb that I bought new and is still pretty cherry and there is no way I would ever replace that old classic with a modern one. It is not a daily driver but I plan to keep it for many more years. When I got it it had every option possible and everything still works too and I enjoy the comments I get about it from time to time when I take it on a trip because there is not many of them left and of them, very very few in the shape mine is in. It has 180K miles on it and I figure at least another 100K or so is left in it before major work is needed and maybe not even then with some luck as it uses not oil between changes today and still does not leak either. I must have got a good one. One tip, if you get K5, set timing at 4-6 with 89 octane 8 to 10 BTDC 92 octane or better and it will be a whole different animal than with 87 octane and TDC baseline timing. I have rub 93 in mine for many year and will NEVER go back to 87 with it no matter how much gas costs. It was a slug at times on 87, especailly in hot weather. |
