My 97 chevy z/71 has a 5.7 and auto trans. My tack and speedo stopped working and my shift indicator light goes out and the truck won't go into 1st gear. This comes and goes. So i took it to auto zone and had it scanned. It gave a lot of tranny sensor errors what could it be any help would be great. Thanks

What were the error codes??? Also, you may have separate problems because I think a grounding issue is cause the indicator/tach problem but they could all be related to a bad ground.

Check grounds in dash area for starters and again if there was codes thrown it would help a lot to know the codes.

Get them to write them down or print them out because many codes can point to same part.

Well for starters it sounds like it is running rich for first 4 codes. It could be a O2 sensor but a bad ECT sensor (engine coolant temperature) could make it rich without coding for sensor snf cause these problem, you might start there. On the tranny codes you might check connections on harness down there and the electrical grounds for starters.

There are a lot of codes that spread across many areas. Do you think it might be wise to clear the codes and then have it checked again? This way it would rule out false positives.

A bad ECT can cause a lot of codes like this. Next choice would be to check MAP sensor for first 4 codes. I feel this is a problem caused by running rich and these are to places to start.

Well I was trying to whittle the list down some but a bad ECT sensor can cause tranny to shift strange. I had a friend that a few years ago thought his 4L80 was going south in his old work van. He replaced the ECT and tranny would fine and still does today.

There is two on that engine, one for gauge and one for computer. You want one near thermostat housing, not in head.
