Hey John - there is a wire bundle that comes through the back end of the truck and goes up into the liftgate. It's inside a black rubber hose... if you can, pull back that black rubber hose and check to see if the wires are badly crimped, chaffed or broken. I suspect that there is a problem with the bundle.

Also, I'm pretty sure you're correct, in that there is a door switch on your Sub. If that is bad, I believe it de-grounds those components. I *think*.
