I need to remove the plastic 2-piece shroud around the steering column so that I can lubricate the upper shaft but I can't figure out how to do it without breaking the plastic. It looks like there are two fasteners under the lower part of the shroud but they're not regular or allen screws.

Any ideas?

Are they torx head?

I'm pretty sure that they're torx - I think it's pretty small, like a T15 or T20.

I'll take a look. Didn't think they were Torx, but I'll take another look...once it warms up a bit. I guess the eyes aren't what they used to be!

HEhehe... I here ya.

I'm pretty sure they are torx heads, although they might be "security torx" (like a torx head, but with a little pin sticking down through it). GM is famous for using Torx bolts throughout their rigs.

Usually that is on key cylinder socket not shroud

I remember reading a thread here (or somewhere else) about this common problem. I think I remember that using graphite was the hot trick to keep it from squeaking again later, but I just don'r remember 100% for sure.

...if I could remember where I put my Ginko Biloba, then I would be able to remember to take my Viagra. ;)

Well....since my eyes are all ready starting to go....maybe my hearing will be the next to go and I won't have to worry about the squeak anymore
