1 quart per day?!?!? Wholly cow, that's a lot of oil!
Is it blowing a lot of blue smoke through the tail pipe when you are driving it? Did this start all of a sudden, or has it become gradually worse?
It's burning oil because the piston rings have malfunctioned in some way, and/or the valve seals have worn completely out.
P.S. While I'm not a greenie or a tree hugger, this is incredibly bad for hte environment, and in nearly every state, you can get a ticket for this (I think it's call "Gross polluter" or something like that). It's also quite bad for your engine, so you should get this fixed right away.
