i have a 1997 chevy k1500 350 vortec

every time i try to put her in 4x4 she blows the fuse. what all should i check for and what all should i do to find the culprit?

i got stuck in a ditch on the side of the road and i REALLY should have NEVER ben stuck. it was pretty embarrasing...

well i think i found the culprit, i disconnected the two wires on the front axle and shifted her into 4wd and didnt blow the fuse. but when i plugged them back in the fuse popped. so its my 4wd actuator im guessing.

how do the aftermarket actuators compare to the ones at the dealer???

If budget is tight (isn't it for everyone?), then I would get one from a reputable auto parts store, like AutoZone, PepBoys, etc. Most carry mult-year warranties on their parts, and it's a heckuva lot cheaper.

At least that's what I would do.

alright thanks rick. i just got new tires (took forever to get rid of the tread on the last ones) to go along with my 3" body lift, so ill post some pics up soon.

it kinda sucks when you just spend a bunch of money on tires and rims and then you get slammed with another job, espically when its your 4WD!

thanks.

i ended up having to cut the bumper a little and lowering the torsion bars back down, so it looks a bit different (for the better i think). in that picture they are almost all the way up, and when they are up that far, the ride sucks. i have them to where the truck is leveled and it rides wayyyy better, plus if they're cranked that high your steering parts, etc. will not last long at all

i think someone from here told me to never crank the t-bars. hehe they were right.

well, yeah alot of people told me it looks sweet, but i think i have turned alot more heads with the exaust system i have on it rather than how it looks[:D].

flowmaster american thunder true duals without cat converters[banger]

i ended up going to the dealership on that actuator. and i have to get another (different) actuator and a different harness for it that i have to install, cuz the other one they had was complete crap (apparently) and they dont sell it anymore.

and the trxus all terrain tire is pretty decent. its a little noisy but not bad like a mud terrain, rides great, haven't put it to the real tests though (cuz of my 4wd issues)[@#@]

yea the acutator you had was the thermal actuator and they went to a elcetric on in 99 that works way better.

hehe... yeah it's nice but right now im not going to put the 6 in on her but i probably will next summer. this summer ive got to freshen up the paint job im getting rust spots in places and clearcoat coming off in places and considering that it was a work truck at one time it has its share of bumps and bruises...so thats the next project =)
