thanks rick, ill consider it but for now im gonna focus on the task at hand, i am however gonna keep an active log of the job, to include pictures, and i will entertain you all of the bunders i encounter. for now: today i started of simple. i first harvested the engine wiring harness, this proved to be a serious chore, as it is meticulously routed every where, but with a little thinking and a big hammer( to remove the grill and front clip off the xj) i pulled the harness free inc the ecm and sat it on top of the engine (out of the way of the fan) and hooked it all back up, to make sure i didnt screw any thing up. the fuse box is gonna prove to be an unexpected speed bump. i think i can work it out though

I NOW HAVE THE ENGINE XMISSION AND XFER OUT OF THE XJ. I REMOVED THE WIRING HARNESS AND HAVE BEEN WORKING ON RECONFIGURING IT. THE CHEROKEE HAD A COMBINED HARNESS, THE WIRES FOR BOTH THE ENGINE AND THE BODY ROUTED THROUGH THE SAME COAX. THIS PROVED TO BE A REAL 8itch PARDON MY LANGUAGE BUT TO USE ANY OTHER WORD WOULD BE A GREAT INJUSTICE. I RENTED A "STEAM GENIE" AND STEAM CLEANED THE REMOVED DRIVETRAIN. ANYONE WHO HAS EVER CLEANED FIFTEEN YEARS WORTH OF GREASE OFF AN ENGINE BLOCK WOULD AGREE IT WAS WELL WORTH THE MONEY CLEANING ONLY TOOK ABOUT 20 MIN (YOU COULDNT EXACTLY EAT OFF IT BUT IT GOOD ENOUGH THAT SOME HIGH TEMP ENAMEL ENGINE PAINT WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM STICKIN)//// ON A DIFFERENT NOTE DO ME AND ANYONE HOW MAY POSSIBLY EVER OWN YOUR VEHICLE A FAVOR, AS TEMPTING AS IT MAY BE, WHEN PUTING ON A COMBINATION U-JOINT OR FOR THAT MATER ANY U-JOINT DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT USE A THREAD LOCK!!! I WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD THAT TO THE JOKER I BOUGHT MY XJ FROM. THE LITTLE BOLTS JUST CANT HANDLE THE TORQUE REQUIRED TO BREAK THE THREAD LOCK. I ENDED UP CUTTING THE HEADS OFF OF THE BOLTS ON THE FRONT OUT PUT YOKE JUST TO GET THE DRIVE SHAFT OFF. IT DOESNT MATTER IM TAKIN THE FRONT YOKE OF MY YJ ANY HOW BUT IT WAS A PAIN. THANKS FOR READING ILL KEEP YOU UPDATED.

tonite i revamped the wiring harness to eliminate the excess, i found it best to remove the wires from the cannon plug on the ecm to untagle the wires. i then singled out each component and taped its individual wires together to keep them from getting tangled. when i route the wires through the "dog house" i will then reinstall the conduits and plug the wires back into the ecu's cannon plug. As always any suggestions are appreciated: you can contact me at: therearenoidslefthere@yahoo.com

....THE CRITTER WENT AND DONE IT!!!.... Today we installed the new tranny and ENGINE! the tranny was a little rough i had to "engineer" the trans mount to fit the ax 15, as the bolt holes on the ax 15 are about a half an inch further apart than the holes on the ax5. we cut the mounts for the engine then bolted them to the engine, dropped it in, bolted it to the tranny, then tack welded the mounts to the frame, i welded them personally so they are in fact some of the ugliest welds you will ever see. we pulled the motor back out and sunday a real welder will finish welding the mounts in place. and after i will install the new wiring harness.

sorry its been awhile, i put the new wiring harness in and mounted the radiator. i will have to use an electric pusher fan on the radiator as i havent enough room for a regular fan assymbly. my main goal was not to have to shorten the drive shafts and now i begin to pay the price. I will be unable to update this for the next six or seven weeks, as i have a little campout to attend, i will do quite of bit of offroad driving but not exactly in a jeep.

god bless

Hey Scott, if there's any room at all, I recommend that you go to a puller fan. They are considerably more efficient and you're very likely to have overheating problems. Been there, done that. ;)

Just my 2 cents obviously.

Hey Scott, If you run a stock 4.0L, fan. shroud, & radiator you should have no overheating problems. I don,t.

thanks for the info however since i chose not to shorten my dreive shaft, in order to get the rear output at the same distance as the stock it resulted in only having about 2 inches between my pullys and the radiator so i havent much choice ill just have to pray for the best and put a screen over the outside of the fan to try to keep leaves out. and yes thanks to your tax dollars at work i am out in the middle of nowhere on a satalite link isnt technology great well looks like iv got about 30 more days to decide what im gonna do i appreciate any input any one may have no suggestion is too outragous.

out ps if you need any hmmwv advice just let me know(lots of experience)we have a tendency to push them to the max.
