Hi all,

Just got myself a beautiful old 88. This is my first Jeep and so far I'm thrilled and finally see what all the fuss is about, its a real solid truck.  Of course, because of her age, I am will be going through her pretty thoroughly.

One of the first questions I have is in regards to the hood and engine bay.  I have noticed that there is no gasket or seal around the hood, and a substantial amount of weather is able to work its way in.  In fact when I opened up the hood after this last New England snow storm, the whole engine compartment had about 1/2" of snow in it.  This has led to quite a bit of surface corrosion and road grime on the engine.  Does anyone know of an aftermarket solution for this - I cant seem to find anything.

Also, what are your favorite Jeep part supply stores?

Thanks and happy holidays!

Hi tjrJeep - welcome to the forums!

I don't think there is an aftermarket kit for this, but you can use all-purpose closed-cell foam weather stripping from any auto-parts store (don't use the junk you get from Home Depot, it won't last).

Although, you're still going to get weather coming up from underneath the engine...

Hey, thanks for the response..

Yeah I figured I might have to rig something up.  I've got some industrial 3/4" thk. neoprene tape lying around I may try.  I'll let ya know how it goes.

Grime is expected, although it ought to be controlled.  Do they have something OEM on later models?
