My two speed Quadra-Track transfer case has started to make an ominous poping sound under tough hill climbing. I disassembled it and compared it to a known good case with out any luck. The chain is a little loose but I can't see how it could slip without self destructing. Has anyone had this problem? I have two friend whose Quadra-Tracks are doing the same thing.

YOur problem is you have a quadra-trac. the transfer case that comes with the automatic transmission in a jeep is a p.o.s u shoulda got a manual, so u woulda had a dana 300. You want my opinion get rid of it all together and get a manual wrangler.

I've disasembled the case and the only wear I found was on the brake cones. The Quadr-track is what I gots...I want to get it right!

If anyone is interested: I have solved the klunking noise. The chain was stretched and was banging against the inside of the case. There was no slipage and the chain did not seem to do any damage even after extremem use. I replaced my chain with a quality one from Morse.
