I have a 97 jeep TJ 4 litre. I get low oil pressure when the car is hot and idols. The gauge reads about 1.5 to 1 bar at the lowest, which is about 21 to 15 psi. When I start to move the pressure goes to the middle of the gauge about 3.2 bar(46 psi). Is this normal?

Josph When your engine runs at operating temperature the oil will get thin resulting in oil pressure that is lower at idle then at higher RPM's. When using the correct weight of oil recommended by the manufacture this is normal. Call your local dealer and ask them what the normal oil pressure is at an idle. Slick 50 also never hurts ------------ Joseph at 6/25/2003 7:37:22 AM

It is normal. Actually at idle, the engine only needs ~10 psi. As long as the pressure increases with rpm/load, you are ok. Some manufacteres install the oil pressure sensor "dummy light" to come on at less than 5 psi!! ------------ mike d at 9/8/2003 6:15:25 AM
