after driving car for less than 1/2 hr or more car starts to sputter/hesitate/flutter/etc, i stopped immediately & checked under the hood and noticed the exhaust manifold was glowing red. But the car was not overheating and all the guages were ok. i turned off the car immediately. then waited for it to cool down. then it would not start. i checked the coil and there was power going into the coil. but no spark(none going out). i disconnected the coil, set it aside, let it sit for a while to cool down. i plugged it back in & the car turned on fine & drove fine for about 10 minutes then sputtered again. but i forced it to make it home going at about 20mph then it stopped sputtering & i was able to go faster.

please give me some advice... I think::: 1- the heat from the exhaust manifold is affecting the coil in some way. 2- catylitic converter might be clogged/dirty causing the exhaust manifold to turn red hot 3- or maybe the crack shaft sensor....

no idea where to start...help please!

hi well i can only think of two reasons why it would do that,The first one would be the the exuast is somehow getting resticted. You might wana try hitting the catalitic converdera few rimwith a rubber mallet.but the more likly cause would be it is igniting the gas way to late.it sounds like it could be igniting the gas at the begining of the exuast cycle.you want to check the timing and make sure its on 0*tdc(i think thats what there set to not sure).Has it been running badly?i would tune it up and check the timing.Hows the o2 sensor/that has probably been affected as well.

You have a leak in the intake.Driving will burn the valves slam up.if it is the 5.2 v8,check the plentium gasket in the intake, this is a very common problem. It will also pull the oil out of the crankcase and cause low oil pressure and then engine failure. ------------ mike at 8/16/2003 5:16:17 AM
