Hey all,
I have a quandry. When we bought our family truckster early this summer gas was around 1.80 a gallon. Now that gas regularly hits nearly twice that amount I want something else to haul the family around in since our Ram gets 10.5 MPG.
So I am on the prowl for a small SUV about 5 or 7 years old. I think I have it narrowed down to a late model ZJ (96-98) or a late 90's 4Runner.
I like the looks of both and they are both very capable off road. I might even consider turning whatever I buy into a trail rig so I want to bake that option into the decision.
Both are great vehicles and I have read nearly everything there is to read on the net about both of them but I still cant decide which way to lean. Do any of you have any thoughts or advice?

Not knocking Jeeps as I own a few but the Grand is more car than Jeep and the 4runner is a well designed and built vehicle and will likely average better MPG than the Grand too, especailly if the grand has a 360 as they can be real gas guzzlers. |

Snoman,
Thanks. I appreciate your comments. Gas mileage is a definite consideration here. We are spending enough time feeding the Ram. It has a 360 and you are right, it is thirsty. When I floor the gas I can actually watch the gas gauge and the speedometer race to the middle. |
