| I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. It is haunted. Particularly, the tranny is currently possessed. It will shift from park into reverse and also into first gear but it won't shift out of first into any higher gears no matter what I do. When the problem first started happening, the transmission would shift when the vehicle red-lined and the governor kicked in. Now it won't even shift then. I have checked every mechanical part that I think it could possibly be. Considering the engine was cleaned with a power-washer the evening before the trouble started, I am beginning to think it could be an electrical short somewhere. I took it for a drive (for a couple of hours) just after it was cleaned and it was working fine. Please, if you have any ideas on what to do to exorcise the evil poltergeist jamming up the works, let me know. Thanks! :) |

| I think you are on the right track about a connector/water theory. Take them all apart and clean them and check them for water. |

| yea, sounds electrical, although i gotta say i got the same prob in my 83 jeep cherokee, lol, i once parked it on a hill n it rolled back ino a creek, got it stuck big time, lol cause it fell out of park, try letting off of the gas when u try n shift it, can u shift it while the truck is off? i can crank up my truck in 2nd gear, lol, it is automatic right? im assuming |
