I have an 87 Jeep Wrangler with a fresh 2.5 engine. It run great down the highway, but in town it won't stay running at an idle. If you pump the gas or hold the throttle down it runs. I have $800 in certified Chrysler mechanics bills in it now. All sensors have been replaced as well as all vacuum hoses, the module etc.

No one seams to think that it could be the fuel pump. I had an old CJ that had simular problems and I put an electric pump in line to increase pressure and things straightened up.

I hope someone can help.

My gut feeling would be that it was something in the carb, but if your mechanics have checked all of that, and you think the electric pump would fix it, I'd give it a shot. They're pretty cheap and it's a relatively easy modification too. plus, if that's what it turns out to be, you can rub their noses in it! [)]
