Hi guys - my '80 CJ5 has been overheating lately. I know there are a hundred things to check, but I was curious if there is a common problem with the CJ5 I should start looking at, before I dig into everything else.
thanks,

Hi Jason - not to sound overly simplistic, but have you checked or performed the following?
1) Water in the radiator.
2) A recent tune up (to include timing, carb settings, etc... An overly lean motor will overheat).
3) Flush and fill the radiator
4) Any items blocking the grill and/or radiator.
Lastly, have you done anything recently to your Jeep? (e.g. add a winch, add a tranny cooler, made engine mods, etc.)

| Never seen a car overheat for a lean mixture but I have a few air cooled engines. Give vehciles age if coolant is full and Tstat okay, the radiator is likely plugged internally or externally (or both)and needs more than a flushing to fix. |
