| This should come as no surprise because even in neutral the tranny provides some drive which spins gear as you go between low and high range and they are not synchronized. Try stop vechicle in gear and hold brake firm then place in park while still holding brake firm and then shift . If this does not work for you try a rolling shift of 3 to 5 MPH. |

| That didn't do it, it just grinds out of low to high, and back to low. All at a stop. Mechanic guessed synchros, $$$$$ |

| There are no sycros in Tcase. Also if it is in PARK, it cannot grind because output shaft from tranny is locked. |

As I said earlier, most automatics bleed some power through in neutral which is more than enough to spin the input gears in Tcase during range change and cause crunch. Only park locks/stops output shaft. |

I agree that in neutral you'll still get some the input gears, but I've shifted Cherokee sports in nuetral hundreds of times and never had it grind. Normally it just wouldn't go in at all, and popping it ino and out of drive (getting it to roll just a bit), got the gears to line up and it went in perfectly.
Anyone else actually have grinding sounds when doing this? |

| Works in park fine, it's just in the past there were no issues in neutral, so something changed. You make good sense, just wondering what is the difference from then to now. thanks though |

Age. Clutches are controlled by fluid flow and even when not engaged they are shearing tranny fluid between plates and clutch discs and bleeding power. It is possible that with a fresh change of clean fluid in tranny may help the problem.
