The way I go about that is this: pull one plug at a time. Reconnect the wire to the plug. Hold it to the frame or grounded metal like the block (touch the threads on the plug to the grounded metal). Then turn the rig over to see if it sparks. You should know right away. Then turn off your rig, put that plug back in, and start the next. This should tell you which if any plugs arent sparking.

If you are having problems firing up your rig... and you have spark. Check fuel delivery. Have some one turn the motor over with the intake off. Look into the carb, or whatever you have, and see if you can smell or see gas going in. If not, then you may have a timing issue. Check your timing with a gun. If that is good, then I dont know what to tell ya!!! lol. If you cant get your timing right, you could have a timing chain issue, or even a cam issue where it meets the distributor.

Rick, you got anything to add??

Hmmm.... thats always a plus too. Assuming the rig doesnt start. Is your rig starting, or not? What was the grounds for the question? I assume it is because it wont fire up. As long as its turning over, you should have power to the distributer, unless the power wire from the starter to the distributer is broke or corroded. Also make sure the wires going from the distributer to the cap/coil are good too.

Well, there's the ol' "lick your finger and grab a hold" method. :)

Personally, any more, I usually just hook up a timing light to each spark plug wire while cranking and see if I'm getting spark that way. It's easy and takes all of 3 or 4 minutes to do it.
