im takin the 2.5 out of a 95 yj and my donor drivetrain is coming out of what i think is a 91 Cherokee. i plan on pullin the whole pig (engine trans and tranfer)and using the cherokees trans mount by drilling holes in my yjs skid plate. i know i will have to swap yoke of the transfer and cannablize the cherokee wiring harness i also plan to try to use the radiator out of the cherokee altho im not above buyin a new one. i just want to have as much planned out b4 i start so i dont screw up. ive got two loves in my life, my jeep and my wife and for fear of her reading this im not going to say what order they are in.

Hehehehe... can relate with the "love of your life" comment.

In regards to the engine swap, it sounds like you're along the right track. I'm pretty sure that Mountain Off Road (www.mountainoffroad.com) sells the motor mounts you'll need to do this swap. They'll likely be weld / bolt in units and I can vouch for the sheer strength of their "bombproof" motor mounts. (http://www.4x4review.com/products/drive_train/more_mount.asp)

In my humble opinion, I would probably get a new, high-quality radiator from someone like BeCool or Griffin. The 6 cyl engine will produce more heat in the engine bay than your 4-cyl did and there are fewer things worse than dealing with over-heating issues. If you've got the wherewithal, definitely upgrade the radiator, you won't regret it and you'll get peace of mind, which is worth its weight in gold when you're off road a hundred miles away from nowhere.

Also, depending upon how far you are into the conversion, you *may* want to consider swapping in a Chevy or Jeep V8 as the conversion parts, instructions and "available help" is far more abundant. You may run into wiring issues. Also, depending upon where you live, you may not be in compliance with emissions laws since you're stepping back in time on an engine swap. Something to chew on and consider. [)]

info would be abundunt yes, however the parts would not you see i am currently on assignment in germany and the "base" engines you speak of are not only scarce but extremely expensive when you do find them. i know i could have one shiped but that would also make for a large hassle(import fees ect) besides i bought the donor cherokee of a fellow GI for $300 the only thing wrong w/it is the windshiel got busted and the drivers door wont open. he couldnt ship it home w/him in that condition and didnt have time to fix it, he was gonna pay a german local to junk it so i just offered the cash.

Scott, you might want to give them a call though. They may have some information about this conversion or have parts that might fit anyhow. Rick

The motor mounts are pretty easy to build or relocate. If you are using a 5 speed manual. The holes should already be in the skid plate(use the YJ trans mount).

to any body who is having similar dificulties, i have searched the internet over and over and i cannot find new hard mounts, i have found a few fabricaters who woul make them for me if i provided the measurement(thats not gonna happen) luckily i stumbled upon pure genius i was search a popular on line auction and i found a person who had used jeep parts and i emailed him and he has some used mounts that he has already cut off and they are gonna cost a fraction of what the fab. would be.
