Nope, AMC 2.5 uses a GM small motor bolt pattern that was used on their 2.5, 3.8, 3.1 and 3.4 engines, There is a solution though if you want to use a 4 banger, you need a bellhousing from a 96 to 98 Dakota with a 4 banger as it was same engine and used the same AX15 tranny as later 6 cyl Jeeps. ( more info in link below if you are curious) Also the difference between a NV3500 and a NV3550 is that the 3550 was designed as a direct bolt in replacement for AX15 while 3500 is not. To do the reverse (use a 4 banger tranny with a 6) you would need a adaptor but if you blew your 3550, a AX5 used behind a 6 banger would not last long. A AX15 out of a 89 to 99 Jeep with a 6 will bolt right in.
