| I absolutely love my Durango... except for the inability of the A/C to blow cold and cool the vehicle down quickly. I live in the high desert, and the A/C appears to be completely inadequate to handle the volume and interior heat. The dealer had been really responsive and tested the A/C, which is blowing per specifications out the vents... but it is still inadequate. We have insulated the high pressure side of the compressor, and that helped considerably, but still takes 30 to 40 minutes of driving to cool the vehicle down. (By comparison, a new Trailblazer will cool down immediately, and feels like it could cool a house.) I am desparate for information or advice. Thanks. |

Same problem here. 2002 Durango SLT Mine will only cool to about 50 degrees which is NOT enough in the summer humidity in Georgia. My 1995 Mecury Villager van with 150,000 miles will get down to 38 degrees after a few minutes. (that's the key to me - watch your thermometer when you start the Durango A/C and compare that to any other vehicle. The other vehicle will reach a lower air temperature MUCH quicker than the Durango) Talked to an A/C specialist (NOT Chrysler dealership) and he told me that this is a recurring problem with Durangos. Said he has seen 4 or 5 with the SAME problem in the past two summers. In fact, his best friend's daughter is selling hers because of this. His only suggestion was to test drive another one (Durango) at the dealer, measure the temp in THAT one and see if it cools better than yours. Then you will have a gripe. My dealer told me the same thing (it's within specs as far as the air temp leaving the vent).
